The invention relates to a ski wherein a binding portion transfers torsional and vertical forces from a binding via a torsional responsive element to forward and rearward ski portions and vice versa, urging a controlled twist onto a ski. In a prior art ski, a torsional response of the forward ski portion, relative to the binding is substantially independent of the torsional response of a rearward ski portion, relative to the binding and vice versa. In the ski according to this invention, a torsional responsive element coordinates and transmits vertical and torsional forces from the binding to the forward and rearward ski portions. The torsional response to edging related longitudinal weight shift facilitates the execution of low speed turns (1), provides foot swivel torsional control,(2), and provides ski flexing related advantages associated with longitudinal load distributing structures.(3)
