It is presented an arc detector for detecting undesired arcs. The arc detector comprises: an antenna for receiving an electromagnetic signal rep-resenting an arc; and a discriminator for analysing a signal from the antenna, the discriminator comprising a spectrum analyser arranged to detect whether the signal represents a normal arc or an undesired arc. The discriminator is ar-ranged to detect whether the signal represents a normal arc or an undesired arc by comparing signal levels at frequencies of a spectrum of the signal corre-sponding to at least one partial reference spectrum, and determining the arc to be a normal arc if a deviation from the reference spectrum is less than a thresh-old deviation. A corresponding method is also presented.

La présente invention concerne un détecteur darc pour détecter des arcs indésirables. Le détecteur darc comprend : une antenne destinée à recevoir un signal électromagnétique qui représente un arc; et un discriminateur destiné à analyser un signal qui provient de lantenne, le discriminateur comprenant un analyseur de spectre agencé pour détecter si le signal représente un arc normal ou un arc indésirable. Le discriminateur est agencé pour détecter si le signal représente un arc normal ou un arc indésirable en comparant des niveaux de signal à des fréquences dun spectre du signal qui correspond à au moins un spectre de référence partiel, et en déterminant que larc est un arc normal si un écart par rapport au spectre de référence est inférieur à un écart de seuil.
