ABSTRACT A method of treating textile strands wherein textile filaments are coated with aqueous solutions of coating material or contacted with a substance to be incorporated into said strand, gathered into strands and the strands are collected, the improvement comprising passing the treated strands into a zone of fluid turbulence, passing a gaseous fluid in contact with said zone and cir- cumferentially around said zone so thereby remove excess solution or substance from said strand, directing the solution or substance removed from said zone to n collection zone and recovering the solution or substance collected therein. In some instances the yarn itself is improved in that flat yarns being treated emerge from the process in a more rounded shape. The processes further reduce considerably the amount of waste typically encountered in a process for liquid treating yarns. Damage to yarns is minimized using the instance processes and considerable savings are realized in subsequent processing of liquid treated yarns, such as in drying operations, by providing yarns having low excesses of liquid on them.
