ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides new 1,2-diphenyl-ethane derivatives of the general formula:- Image wherein R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or alkanoyl radical containing up to 6 carbon atoms, X is a hydrogen or halogen atom and R' is an alkyl radical containing up to 6 carbon atoms. Process of preparing these compounds from a deoxyanisoin which is reacted with trifluoroethyl iodide, then with alkyl magnesium iodide, then hydrogenated. Pharmaceutical compositions contain- ing these compounds. Useful for oestrogen replacement therapy in deficiency states, for the treatment of benign and malignant changes in the prostate and mammary glands and for the control of contraception.
