The invention relates to new 1-[2-(substituted vinyl)]-3,4-dihydro-5H-2,3-benzodiazepine derivatives, a process for the preparation thereof and pharmaceutical compositions comprising them. The new 1-[2-(substituted vinyl)]-3,4-dihidro-5H- 2,3-benzodiazepine derivatives according to the invention correspond to the general formula (I), Image (I) wherein R represents hydrogen or C1-4 alkanoyl, R1 stands for phenyl optionally carrying 1-3 identical or different substituent(s) selected from the group consisting of halogen, nitro, amino, C1-4 alkylamino, di-(C1-4 alkyl)-amino, C1-4 alkanoylamino, C1-4 alkyl, C1-4 alkoxy, methylenedioxy and hydroxy; or naphthyl optionally carrying a substituent selected from the group consisting of hydroxy, C1-4 alkyl and C1-4 alkoxy; R2 stands for hydrogen or C1-4 alkyl; R3 and R4 are independently C1-4 alkyl, or R3 and R4 together form methylene. The new compounds according to the invention affect the central nervous system and can be used to advantage in the therapy.
