A B S T R A C T A method of combating unwanted vegetation which comprises applying to such vegetation or to a locus from which it is desired to exclude such vegetation, a herbi- cidally effective amount of a 2-iminopyridine of the formula Image (IA) in which R1, R2, R3 and R4 independently of one another represent hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, halogenoalkyl, alkoxy, halogenoalkoxy, alkylthio or halogenalkylthio, R5-2 represents cyano, alkylcarbonyl, alkenylcarbonyl, alkynylcarbonyl, halogenoalkylcarbonyl, halogeno- alkenylcarbonyl, halogenoalkynylcarbonyl, alkoxy- carbonyl or alkylthiocarbonyl, or represents in each case optionally substituted phenylcarbonyl or phenoxycarbonyl, or represents alkylsulphonyl or optionally substituted phenylsulphonyl, or represents alkylaminocarbonyl or optionally substituted phenylaminocarbonyl, phenylalkylcarbonyl, phenylalkenyl- carbonyl, furylcarbonyl, phenoxyalkylcarbonyl, thienylcarbonyl or pyri- dylcarbonyl, or represents cycloalkylcarbonyl, alkoxyalkylcarbonyl, al- kylcarbonyloxyalkylcarbonyl, alkoxycarbonylcarbonyl or halogenalkylsul- phonyl, A represents alkanediyl and Z represents optionally substituted aryl or optionally substituted hetaryl.
