ABSTRACT Novel chlorobutyraldehydes of the general formula R-CCl2-CHO, in which R is chosen from -CH2CH2Cl, -CH2CHCl2 or -CH2-CCl3 are described to- gether with a process for their preparation. These compounds find use in the preparation of pesticidally active compounds of the formula Image in which X represents halogen, and R is as defined above.
