A high-viscosity, low-solids rinse cycle fabric softener formulation including a homogeneous blend of (a) 50-90% by weight of at least one imidazolinium quaternary ammonium compound; and (b) 10-50% by weight of at least one amido amine quaternary ammonium compound, wherein said at least one imidazolinium quaternary ammonium compound and said at last one amigo amine quaternary ammonium compound do not contain any unsaturated alkyl groups, dispersed in water. A method of preparing the high-viscosity, low-solids rinse cycle fabric softener formulation is also provided.
