A method and apparatus for providing an efficient dormant mode for push-to- talk communication devices (102, 104, 106) in a group communication network (100) provides for determining whether the net has been inactive for a predetermined first time period and, if so, causing each member of the net to enter a control-hold mode, wherein each member of the net maintains its dedicated traffic channel. The method further includes the steps of determining whether each member of the net has been in the control-hold mode for a predetermined second time period and, if so, causing each member of the net to enter a dormant mode, wherein each member of the net releases its dedicated traffic channel. The method and apparatus further provides for causing each member of the net to cache its service configuration state before entering the dormant mode.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif assurant un mode dormant efficace pour des dispositifs de communication du type à poussoir de conversation (102, 104, 106) dans un réseau de communication de groupe (100). Ce procédé consiste à déterminer si le réseau a été inactif pendant une première durée prédéterminée et, si tel est le cas, à amener chaque membre de ce réseau à entrer en mode de maintien de commande, chaque membre du réseau conservant son canal de trafic réservé. Ledit procédé consiste également à déterminer si chaque membre dudit réseau s'est trouvé en mode de maintien de commande pendant une seconde durée prédéterminée et, si tel est le cas, à amener chaque membre de ce réseau à entrer en mode dormant, chaque membre dudit réseau libérant alors son canal de trafic réservé. Ce procédé et ce dispositif permettent également d'amener chaque membre du réseau à gérer en mémoire cache son état de configuration de service avant une entrée en mode dormant.
