Copy protection of an optical information carrier (11) is provided by intentional physical modification of the information-carrying layer (2) to affect the readability a software component stored in a specific location (13) . A computer detects the physical modification by attempting to read a specific part of a software component stored in the specific location(13) , which is designated by a unique identification code entered into the computer by retrieval from the information carrier itself or by user operation . As the physical modification is imparted to the information carrier during its first installation on a computer the new feature will in addition to protection of the information carrier against unauthorized use by replaying on other computers than the one, on which it was first installed, provide a verification, for any subsequent replay of the information carrier on the same computer, that the information carrier is the genuine original product.
La protection contre la copie d'un support d'information optique est réalisée par une modification physique intentionnelle de la couche porteuse d'information de façon à affecter la lisibilité d'un composant logiciel stocké en un emplacement spécifique. Par une détection de la modification physique par le système informatique, sur lequel on lit le support d'information, l'ordinateur doit essayer de lire une partie spécifique d'un composant logiciel stocké dans l'emplacement spécifique, qui est désigné par un code d'identification unique introduit dans l'ordinateur, soit par récupération depuis le support d'information lui-même, soit par une opération utilisateur, par exemple via un clavier.
