An exchangeable cutting insert is adapted for mounting in a cutter tool body for use in combined face and periphery milling operations. The cutting insert is a substantially prismoidal body having a planar base (1) and an upper surface (2) with rake portions (10) merging with side flanks (3) of the insert and at least two cutting edges (5) defining therebetween an insert corner (6). The insert corner has a bisector plane (O-O) perpendicular to the base of the insert. Each cutting edge (5) comprises a central portion (5a) and first and second lateral portions (5b, 5c) sloping with respect to the base of the insert and the corner being associated with adjoining first and second lateral portions (5b, 5c) of the adjacent cutting edges. The insert corner (6) and cutting edges (5) are mirror symmetrical about the bisector plane (O-O).

Une plaquette de coupe échangeable est conçue pour être montée dans le corps d'un outil de coupe afin d'être utilisée dans des opérations de fraisage de surface et tangentiel combinées. Ladite plaquette est un corps sensiblement prismoïde doté d'une base plane (1) et d'une surface supérieure (2) à faces de dépouille (10) réunies à des flancs latéraux (3) de la plaquette, et au moins deux arêtes coupantes (5) définissant entre elles un angle (6) de la plaquette. Cet angle présente un plan bissecteur (O-O) perpendiculaire à la base de la plaquette. Chaque arête (5) comprend une partie centrale (5a) et des première et deuxième parties latérales (5b, 5c) inclinées par rapport à la base de la plaquette, l'angle étant associé à des première et deuxième parties latérales contiguës (5b, 5c) des arêtes adjacentes. L'angle (6) de la plaquette et les arêtes coupantes (5) présentent une symétrie spéculaire autour du plan bissecteur (O-O).
