A Luminescence-Based Sensor Assembly is described. The sensor assembly utilises the angular propagation of light into a substrate to distinguish between light originating from a luminescent source close to the substrate and that from a source further away from the substrate. Utilising such a technique, it is possible to employ direct illumination of the sources of luminescence.
