-11- A machine for distributing ballast on a ballat bed of a track includes chutes (13) for discharging ballast on the track (15), the chutes being distanced from one another in the transverse direction of the machine and having a respective discharge end (12). Each chute (13) is designed to be extensible downwardly in the direction towards the track (15) by means of a stripping unit (14) adjustable relative to the discharge end (12) by means of a drive (24). The stripping unit (14) has a charging opening (16) associated with the discharge end (12) and an outlet opening (17) forming a stripping edge (18). The stripping edge (18) is arranged extending parallel to a reference plane (20) defined by wheel contact points (19) of the on-track undercarriages (2,10). This enables a strip (31) of ballast of constant height to be produced for uniform track ballasting while saving ballast.
