By the side of a powdery or granular material stacked in a conical pile on a horizontal surface, a sensor that emits sensor light and, by receiving light reflected from a spot illuminated by the sensor light, detects the distance to the pile of the powdery or granular material is placed with the optical axis of the sensor light horizontal. While the sensor is moved in a horizontal direction perpendicular to the optical axis of the sensor light, the distance to each of a plurality of measurement points arranged horizontally at regular intervals along a line that runs on said pile of the powdery or granular material so as to face the movement path of the sensor. This step is performed every time the sensor is moved vertically a predetermined distance at a time. In each session of the step, a point is extracted that is closest to the sensor, and a function describing a straight line approximating the curve through all of the thus extracted points is determined by the least-squares method. Then, the angle of this straight line with respect to a horizontal plane is determined.
Capteur placé à proximité d'un matériau pulvérulent ou granulaire formant une pile de forme conique pour émettre une lumière de détection et capter la lumière réfléchie à partir d'une zone éclairée par la lumière de détection. Le capteur sert à déterminer la distance jusqu'à la pile de matériau pulvérulent ou granulaire et est placé de manière à ce que l'axe optique de la lumière de détection soit horizontal. Pour ce faire, le capteur est déplacé horizontalement et perpendiculairement à l'axe optique de la lumière afin de mesurer la distance jusqu'à chacun des points de mesure répartis horizontalement à intervalles réguliers le long d'une ligne suivant la pile de matériau pulvérulent ou granulaire de manière à faire face à la voie de déplacement du capteur. Cette étape est répétée chaque fois que le capteur est déplacé verticalement d'une distance prédéterminée. € chaque étape, le point de mesure le plus près du capteur est isolé et une fonction décrivant une ligne droite adoucissant la courbe représentant tous les points isolés est exécutée au moyen de la méthode des moindres carrés. Ensuite, l'angle de cette droite par rapport au plan horizontal est mesuré.
