Aspects of the invention provide a method and apparatus for controlling call acceptance in a telecommunications network comprising periodically measuring the volume of traffic being handled at a node of the network; for each measurement, identifying a corresponding one of a set of storage locations and incrementing the value stored in the identified location; determining from the stored values in said set an index of variation of measurement distribution; and, in the event that the index exceeds a threshold value, intervening to re- route or reject calls for that node. By measuring the volume of traffic and determining a variation of measurement distribution it is possible to detect when the network is apprroaching a chaotic condition, that is to say, becoming unstable. The greater the variation of measurement distribution the more chaotic the network is becoming.
Procédé et appareil de commande d'acceptation d'appel dans un réseau de télécommunications, ce procédé consistant à évaluer périodiquement le volume du trafic en cours de traitement au niveau d'un noeud du réseau; pour chaque évaluation, à identifier un site correspondant d'un ensemble de sites de stockage et à incrémenter la valeur stockée dans le site identifié; à déterminer à partir des valeurs stockées dans cet ensemble un indice de variation de répartition d'évaluations; et dans le cas où l'indice dépasse une valeur de seuil, à intervenir pour réacheminer ou rejeter des appels pour le noeud concerné. En évaluant le volume du trafic et en déterminant une variation de la répartition des évaluations, il est possible de détecter si le réseau approche d'un état chaotique, c'est-à-dire s'il devient instable. Plus la variation de répartition des évaluations est grande, plus le réseau devient chaotique.
