A system (10) and method for forming an arc between an electrode and a workpiece (52) is disclosed. The present invention includes a method of initiating an arc that includes comparing voltage across output terminals of a stick welder to a voltage threshold, and if the voltage across the output terminals is less than the voltage threshold, increasing the voltage across the output terminals to an arc formation OCV. The output voltage of the stick welder will be driven to a lower OCV if an arc is not formed between an electrode and a workpiece within a given period of time.
L'invention concerne un système (10) et un procédé destinés à former un arc entre une électrode et une pièce à travailler (52). La présente invention concerne un procédé destiné à amorcer un arc et consistant à comparer une tension dans des bornes de sortie d'une soudeuse à tige avec un seuil de tension, et, si la tension dans les bornes de sortie est inférieure au seuil de tension, à augmenter la tension dans les bornes de sortie jusqu'à l'obtention d'une tension de circuit ouvert (OCV) de formation d'arc. La tension de sortie de la soudeuse à tige est commandée en vue de l'obtention d'une OCV inférieure si aucun arc n'est formé entre une électrode et une pièce à travailler pendant une période donnée.
