The present invention relates to a polypeptide chain having a .beta. sandwich architecture which can be used as a scaffold, i.e. a supporting framework, carrying antigen- or receptor-binding fragments. More specifically, the present invention describes a non-glycosylated CTLA4-like .beta. sandwhich carrying new and randomized peptide sequences.
