A process for the preparation of copolymers of carbon monoxide with an olefinically unsaturated compound comprising copolymerizing the monomers in the presence of a catalyst composition based upon (a) a salt of a Group VIII metal, and (b) a cation which is selected from cationic oxidants and cations of the general formulae RnH4-nN+, RmH3-mC+ and RmH3-mO+, wherein n is 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4, m is 2 or 3, and R represents a hydrocarbyl group and/or two or three of R together with the atom carrying a positive charge represent a ring structure comprising carbon atoms in the ring, on the understanding that when n is 3, at most two of R together with nitrogen represent a heterocyclic ring structure, and when n is 4, three of R together with nitrogen represent an aromatic heterocyclic ring structure.

L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation de copolymères de monoxyde de carbone et d'un composé insaturé oléfiniquement, consistant à copolymériser les monomères en présence d'une composition de catalyseur, basée sur les ingrédients suivants: (a) un sel d'un métal du groupe VIII et (b) un cation choisi parmi les oxydants cationiques et les cations ayant l'une des formules générales R¿n?H¿4-n?N?+¿, R¿m?H¿3-m?C?+¿ ou R¿m?H¿3-m?O?+¿, dans lesquelles n est égal à 0, 1, 2, 3 ou 4, m est égal 2 ou 3, R représente un groupe hydrocarbyle et/ou deux ou trois des R forment, avec l'atome portant une charge positive, une structure cyclique contenant des atomes de carbone dans le cycle, étant entendu que, quand n est égal à 3, au plus deux des R forment avec l'azote une structure hétérocyclique et, quand n est égal à 4, trois des R forment, avec l'azote, une structure aromatique hétérocyclique.
