The present invention relates to a structural ply of a spiral paperboard ply, the cross machine direction (CD) elasticity modulus E of the structural ply being substantially higher than 4500 MPa. Further, the machine direction (MD) elasticity modulus E of the structural ply is substantially higher than 7500 MPa (N/mm2). The invention also relates to a spiral core comprising such a structural ply. The present invention further relates to a method of improving the stiffness of a spiral paperboard core. Paperboard cores in accordance with the invention may be manufactured by using, either solely or partly, structural plies according to the invention, the paperboard for making up such structural plies having been manufactured, e.g., with a method called press drying. Paperboard based on the press drying method can be manufactured, e.g., with a board machine employing a so-called Condebelt process. The invention also relates to use of such cores as yarn carriers and as tubes for thin films and foils.

La présente invention concerne un jet structurel pour mandrin spiral, le module d'élasticité E dans le sens travers du jet structurel étant sensiblement supérieur à 4500 Mpa et le module d'élasticité E dans le sens machine du jet structurel étant sensiblement supérieur à 7500 MPa (N/mm<2>). La présente invention se rapporte également à un mandrin spiral fabriqué à partir de ce jet structurel. L'invention concerne en outre un procédé permettant d'améliorer la rigidité d'un mandrin spiral en carton. On peut fabriquer des mandrins en carton en utilisant, entièrement ou partiellement, les jets structurels de la présente invention, le carton composant ces jets structurels ayant été fabriqué, par exemple, selon un procédé baptisé pressage-séchage. Le carton produit selon le procédé du pressage-séchage peut être fabriqué, par exemple, sur une machine à carton fonctionnant selon un procédé nommé Condebelt. La présente invention concerne enfin l'utilisation de ces mandrins comme supports d'enroulement de fils et comme tubes de support de films et feuilles minces.
