A switched reluctance motor includes a rotor mounted for rotation about a rotor shaft axis and a stator surrounding the rotor and having at least three electrically independent stator phases. The motor includes an electronic circuit for for selectively energizing the phases in succession with a run current to generate a torque on the rotor and thereby rotate the rotor. The circuit includes switch operating means for selectively operating switches connecting an energy source to the phases. The circuit also includes current sensing means for sensing the amount of current in each of the phases, and timing means for determining the amount of time for the current in each phase to reach a predetermined current level threshold. The circuit also includes pulse means for periodically selectively operating the switch operating means for a limited time to energize the unenergized phases with a seek current without substantially generating torque on the rotor, and comparing means for comparing the amount of time that current in each of the unenergized phases took to reach the predetermined current level threshold. The circuit also includes run means connected to the comparing means and the switch operating means for switching on a selected one of the switches to rotate the rotor.

L'invention concerne un moteur à réluctance commutée qui comprend un rotor monté en rotation autour d'un axe et un stator qui entoure le rotor et qui comprend une première, une seconde et une troisième phases statoriques. Le moteur comprend également un circuit électronique pour exciter séquentiellement les phases du stator afin de soumettre le rotor à un couple de rotation pour le faire tourner. Ce circuit comprend un moyen de commande de commutateurs destinés à raccorder de façon sélective la source de courant aux différentes phases du stator. Il comprend également un moyen de détection de courant destiné à déterminer l'intensité du courant dans chacune des trois phases et un compteur de temps servant à déterminer le délai de montée de l'intensité jusqu'à un seuil prédéterminé. Il comprend également un générateur d'impulsions servant à activer périodiquement et pendant un temps limité les commutateurs pour exciter les phases non excitées au moyen d'un courant limité ne générant pratiquement pas de couple au rotor et un comparateur destiné à comparer le délai de montée de l'intensité jusqu'à la valeur seuil susmentionnée dans chacune des phases non excitées. Il comprend aussi un moyen d'entraînement connecté au comparateur et au moyen de commande des commutateurs pour activer l'un des commutateurs pour faire tourner le rotor.
