TITLE AN AC TO DC CONVERTER INVENTOR PRAVEEN K. JAIN ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An AC to DC converter is provided, suitable for use in an advanced single phase, sine wave voltage, high frequency power distribution system, such as that used in a 20 kHz Space Station Primary Electrical Power Distribution System. The convertor comprises a transformer, a double tuned resonant network, a controlled rectifier and an output filter. The series branch of the resonant network provides low and high impedances while the parallel branch offers high and low impedances, for the fundamental and harmonic currents of the controlled rectifier. This results in an input current with a low content of Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). Two types of control schemes are provided to control the output voltage of the converter. In one scheme a control of about 40% in the output voltage is obtained while maintaining the input power factor equal to or greater than 0.9. However, in the other scheme it is possible to control the output voltage from zero to the rated value while keeping the input power factor close to unity.
