ABSTRACT The invention provides a packer wheel to be towed behind agricultural equipment such as an air seeder, the wheel being used to pack the soil in which seed or fertilizer has been placed. The packer wheel includes a hub and a body extending from the hub to a peripheral wall. A plurality of circumferentially spaced slots extend from the peripheral wall inwardly of the wheel body. Adjacent slots define therebetween a fin which, due to the slots, is somewhat flexible. As the packer wheel rotates the fins will flex slightly, but enough to cause any mud, soil or debris that built up thereon to break away so that the packer wheel remains relatively clean, even in muddy conditions. The slots are shaped so that any mud or debris that builds up therein is automatically forced axially outwardly of the slots as the wheel rotates.

RESUME L'invention consiste en un rouleau rayonneur à remorquer avec de la machinerie agricole comme un semoir pneumatique, le rouleau étant utilisé pour tasser le sol dans lequel sont localisés des semences ou des engrais. Le rouleau rayonneur comprend un moyeu et un corps s'étendant du moyeu vers une paroi périphérique. Un grand nombre de fentes espacées sur la circonférence s'étendent de la paroi périphérique vers l'intérieur du corps du rouleau. Les fentes adjacentes définissent entre elles un aileron ayant une certaine souplesse en raison des fentes. Pendant la rotation du rouleau rayonneur, les ailerons fléchiront légèrement, mais suffisamment pour que s'en détache toute boue, tout sol et tout débris qui s'y accumule; le rouleau rayonneur demeure alors relativement propre, même dans des conditions boueuses. Les fentes sont formées de manière à ce que toute boue ou tout débris qui s'accumule soit automatiquement expulsé dans l'axe vers l'extérieur des fentes pendant la rotation du rouleau.
