The invention relates to an advanced trailing edge control surface on the wing of an aircraft. The wing (1) comprises on its trailing edge a flap (4) that runs in the direction of the wingspan and can be pivoted into various positions, a sealing flap (5) that is situated on the upper side between the wing (1) and the flap (4) and a ventilation flap (5) that is mounted on the underside between the wing (1) and the flap (4) so that it can pivot. According to the invention, the flap (4) can be pivoted through positive positions downwards and through negative positions upwards. When the flap (4) is used as a control flap, with pivoted positions of said flap ranging between negative and low positive value flap positions, the upper side of the wing profile is closed by the sealing flap (7) and the underside is closed by the ventilation flap (5) and when the flap (4) is used to increase the uplift, with pivoted positions of the flap (4) ranging between low positive value positions and high positive value positions, the ventilation flap (5) releases an air flow from the underside of the wing (1) to the upper side of the flap (4) and the sealing flap (7) is retracted to form a predefined gap, in order to release an outflow of air from the upper side of the flap (4).
