The castor effect is supplemented at low steering angles by a detent. The effect of the detent is to even out the centering or restoring force on the castor wheel, so that at low angles the centering effect is substantial enough for good control of the vehicle when driven on the roads or when in working condition and travelling in a relatively straight line while at large steering angles the centering effect is light enough to permit smooth tight turns at headlands etc. The even-centering characteristic is achieved by a cam and low-friction follower, which act on the swivel axis of the castor wheel.
L'effet de chasse est augmenté aux petits angles de pivotement par un système amortisseur. L'effet du système est d'égaliser la force de centrage ou de réalignement sur la roue pivotante, de façon qu'à de petits angles de pivotement, l'effet de centrage soit assez fort pour un bon contrôle du véhicule lorsque ce dernier est conduit sur les routes ou lorsqu'il fonctionne et se déplace sur une ligne relativement droite, alors qu'à de grands angles de pivotement, l'effet de centrage soit assez faible pour permettre des virages serrés aux tournières sans à-coup. La caractéristique d'égalisation est effectuée au moyen d'une came et d'un suiveur de came à coefficient de frottement réduit, qui agissent sur l'axe de pivotement de la roue pivotante.
