In order to monitor the adjustment state of the entrainers, which are arranged in each case in pairs transverse to the feed direction, of a feed chain, it is proposed to arrange an adjusting station along the guide of the feed chain and to arrange a measuring station at a spaced interval therefrom. The adjusting station serves to adjust manually the entrainers in a common adjusting plane extending perpendicular to the feed direction, whereas the measuring station is arranged to detect the adjustment position of the two entrainers in a measuring plane likewise perpendicular to the feed direction and, in accordance with a tolerance field which can be defined by the user, to generate an error signal which at the same time renders it possible to identify maladjusted entrainers.
