Abstract of the Disclosure This invention relates to novel intermediates useful in the preparation of derivatives of 1-aryloxy-2-hydroxy-3-alkyleneamino propane having a combination of .alpha.- and .beta.-andrenolytic properties. These intermediates have the general formula (X) X - alk - R5 (X) wherein: R5 represents a heterocyclic group of the formula Image or Image R10 represents hydrogen, or an alkoxy group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R11 represents hydrogen, trifluoroethyl, or an alkoxy group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; B represents -NH, -OCH2- (wherein the oxygen is bonded to the phenyl: nucleus) or -(CH2)2; alk represents a straight or branched-chain alkylene group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms; and X represents a leaving group; Processes for the preparation of these compounds are also disclosed.
