An improved contact body for use in a liquid gas contact apparatus formed of first and second sets of corrugated sheet ma- terial with the sheets (31) of the first set disposed alternately with the sheets (29) of the second set. The corrugations (30) of the first set of sheets (31) cross the corrugations (28) of the second set of sheets (29) at an acute angle in the range of 15°et 80°.Cor- rugations (30) of the first set of sheets have a greater inclination to the horizontal plane of the contact apparatus than the corruga- tions (28) of the second set of sheets and the corrugations (30) of the first set of sheets have a smaller amplitude dimension than the corrugations (28) of the second set of sheets. Corrugations (30) in the first set of sheets are inclined upwardly in the direction of gas flow and corrugations (28) in the second set of sheets are inclined downwardly in the direction of gas flow.
