ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The use of the following polymer latex composition in aqueous based paints or wood coatings wherein said polymer is derived from the following monomers: (a) acetoacetoxyethyl acrylate or acetoacetoxyethyl methacrylate; (b) glycidyl acrylate or glycidyl methacrylate; (c) one or more ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable acids; and (d) one or more monomers copolymerizable therewith; wherein the total weight percent of (a), (b) and (c) in the polymer latex composition is between about 3 weight percent and about 60 weight percent of the total amount of solids in the latex, and wherein the total weight percent of (d) in the latex composition is between about 97 weight percent and about 40 weight percent of the total amount of polymer solids in the latex is provided.
