A mechanical anti-theft device for motor vehicles 2 which includes, essentially, gripper means 5 capable of engaging the cross section of a tyre 3 and a wheel rim 4 of a wheel 1 of the motor vehicle 2 so that it closes on a pivot around the said tyre 3 and said wheel rim 4; a support bar 6 for the gripper means 5; an actuator rod 7, connected to the gripper means 5, which is slides with relation to the bar 6 in such a way that it can be moved, manually, between a first, unlocked, position, when it controls the opening of the gripper means 5 and a second, locked, position, when it controls the closure of the gripper means around the said tyre 3 and wheel rim 4; elastic means 8 are also envisaged, placed between the said bar 6 and the said rod 7, capable of holding the said rod 7 in the unlocked position, and also items 9, associated with the said rod 7 and capable of engaging with the said bar 6 in order to lock the said rod 7 with respect to the same bar in the closed position.
