This invention is a disposable cartridge (10) for use at the patient side to perform traditional coagulation assays on fresh whole blood or blood derivative samples. The cartridge (10), in use with an electronic analyzer allows a fluid sample to be metered and quantitatively mixed with reagents which activate the coagulation cascade. An artificial substrate for thrombin, the enzyme whose action results in clot formation is also provided. Clot formation is subsequently detected using a microfabricated sensor (29) also housed within the cartridge (10) which detects electrochemically the product of the thrombin reaction upon the synthetic substrate.

L'invention se présente comme une cartouche jetable (10) utilisée du côté patient pour effectuer des dosages de coagulation traditionnels sur du sang frais entier ou des échantillons dérivés du sang. La cartouche (10), utilisée avec un analyseur électronique, permet de mesurer un échantillon liquide et de le mélanger quantitativement avec des réactifs qui actionnent la cascade de coagulation. L'invention concerne aussi un substrat artificiel pour la thrombine, l'enzyme dont l'action consiste à former des caillots. Elle permet de détecter la formation de caillots au moyen d'un capteur microfabriqué (29) également monté à l'intérieur de la cartouche (10), qui détecte par procédé électrochimique le produit de la réaction de la thrombine sur le substrat synthétique.
