The present invention is directed to an apparatus and method for forming fibers. One embodiment of the apparatus includes a die assembly having a plurality of nozzles, one or more attenuation medium passages and a cover plate. The cover plate has a cover plate opening into which one or more of the nozzles may extend. The attenuation medium passages have a minimum cross- sectional area and the cover plate opening has a limiting cross-sectional area such that the minimum cross-sectional area of the attenuation medium passages is greater than the limiting cross-sectional area of the cover plate opening. The method of the present invention may also include providing a die that creates a low internal pressure drop, cooling the attenuation medium upon exit of the die and/or providing an attenuation medium with a high relative solvent- vapor content in the attenuation region.

L'invention concerne un appareil et un procédé permettant de former des fibres. Un mode de réalisation de l'appareil concerne notamment un ensemble matrice doté de plusieurs buses, d'au moins un passage du milieu d'atténuation et d'une plaque-couvercle. Cette dernière a une ouverture dans laquelle s'étend au moins une buse. Les passages du milieu d'atténuation ont une aire transversale minimale et l'ouverture de la plaque-couvercle une aire transversale limite de sorte que l'aire transversale minimale desdits passages est supérieure à celle de l'ouverture de la plaque-couvercle. Le procédé selon l'invention peut également consister à produire une matrice susceptible de créer une chute de pression interne faible, à refroidir le milieu d'atténuation à la sortie de la matrice et/ou à produire un milieu d'atténuation présentant une teneur relative solvant-vapeur élevée dans la zone d'atténuation.
