There are provided optical fiber rod overcladding apparatus and method, and an optical fiber drawing method. In the preform rod overcladding method, a preform rod is clamped in a top chuck and leveled, and a glass tube is mounted in a bottom chuck and leveled. The preform rod is coaxially inserted into a glass tube. Then, the glass tube is preheated by the furnace and heated by the burner until the glass tube reaches a softening point. The preform rod is completely sealed in the glass tube by sucking air in a clearance between the preform rod and the glass tube by application of a negative vacuum pressure. Thus, a preform is completed.
L'invention a pour objet un appareil et un procédé pour gainer une tige préforme de fibre optique ainsi qu'un procédé d'étirage de fibres optiques. Selon le procédé pour gainer une tige préforme, on enserre la tige préforme dans un mandrin supérieur et on la met à niveau; on place un tube de verre dans un mandrin inférieur et on le met à niveau. La tige préforme est insérée dans le tube de verre de manière coaxiale. On préchauffe ensuite le tube de verre dans le four et on le chauffe au moyen d'un brûleur jusqu'à ce que le tube de verre atteigne un point de ramollissement. Lorsque la tige préforme est entièrement scellée dans le tube de verre par l'aspiration de l'air dans le jeu périphérique entre la tige préforme et le tube de verre grâce à une pression négative, la préforme est prête.
