ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus and method for recording digital data employing a DAT (digital audio tape recorder) adapted to record data from a computer or the like in accordance with a DAT format, wherein a unit is formed of predetermined plural frames and a signal indicative of the frame current number in the unit and a signal indicative of the last frame of the unit are recorded, whereby the length of the unit can be arbitrarily changed.
