A generally vertical caster (10) for casting molten metal into metallic bar. The caster includes a pair of movable opposed belts (12, 14), each of the belts having a casting surface (12a, 14a) and a pair of movable opposed dam block means (30, 32) including a plurality of dam blocks having one end mounted to an orbiting support (43, 44) and a casting surface (34a, 36a) opposite the mounted end. The casting surfaces of the belts and the casting surfaces of the dam blocks define a bar casting zone (100) for solidifying the molten metal into metallic bar. The caster also incudes cooling bars (70, 72) for cooling the belts while the belts pass through the bar casting zone. An associated method and a metallic bar made by the method are also provided.

Machine à mouler (10) sensiblement verticale (10) servant à mouler du métal en fusion pour en faire des barres métalliques. La machine comporte une paire de courroies mobiles opposées (12, 14) dont chacune présente une surface de moulage (12a, 14a), et une paire de dispositifs à blocs de moulage (30, 32), opposés et mobiles, comportant plusieurs blocs de moulage présentant une extrémité fixée à un support tournant (43, 44), et une surface de moulage (34a, 36a) opposée à l'extrémité fixée au support tournant. Les surfaces de moulage des courroies et les surfaces de moulage des blocs de moulage délimitent la zone de moulage (100) où le métal en fusion se solidifie pour donner des barres métalliques. La machine à mouler comporte également des barres de refroidissement (70, 72) destinées à refroidir les courroies alors qu'elles traversent la zone de moulage des barres. Un procédé associé et une barre métallique obtenue au moyen du susdit procédé sont également décrits.
