An apparatus is useful for dye marking a liquid enteral nutritional product during delivery thereof from a supply container to a feeding tube delivering the nutritional product to the gatrointestinal tract of a patient. A formulation chamber, such as a drip chamber, is connectable to the supply container. At least one sustained release reservoir containing a physiologicaly acceptable marker dye is positioned within the formulation chamber, or if not, is included as part of a kit. The sustained release reservoir may be in the form of a coated tablet, osmotically driven device, coated capsule, microencapsulated microspheres, agglomerated molecular sieving material, or chopped hollow fibers having permeable walls. A liquid communication means connects the formulation chamber to the feeding tube of a patient. The marker dye may be a colorant dye or a fluorescing dye or a mixture thereof. In using the apparatus for dye marking the nutritional product is flowed through the apparatus and a feeding tube to enter the gastrointestinal tract of a patient.
Appareil servant à marquer au moyen de colorants un liquide à administration entérale lors de son administration à partir d'un récipient à l'aide d'un tube le transportant dans les voies digestives d'un patient. Une chambre de préparation par exemple du type à goutte à goutte est raccordable audit récipient. Par ailleurs une (ou plus d'une) réserve à libération continue contenant un colorant marqueur à compatibilité physiologique est placée dans ladite chambre ou fait sinon partie de l'ensemble. La réserve à libération continue peut se trouver sous la forme de comprimés enrobés, de dispositifs osmotiques, de capsules enrobées, de microsphères microencapsulées, de matériaux sieving moléculaire ou de fibres creuses courtes à parois poreuses. Un moyen liquide de communication relie la chambre de préparation au tube d'administration du patient. Le marqueur peut être du type colorant, fluorescent ou un mélange des deux. Pour effectuer le marquage, le liquide nutritionnel traverse l'appareil avant de pénétrer dans les voies digestives du patient.
