The invention relates to a settler for decanting mineral slurries and a method thereof. The settler (10) comprises a tank (11) for holding and decanting a body of slurry (15 & 16) to form a thickened slurry as a lower layer (15) and a clarified liquid as an upper layer (16), the tank having a side wall (34), a bottom (36) and a top (14), an outlet (18) for the thickened slurry at the bottom of the tank, an outlet (19) for the clarified liquid layer near the top (14) of the tank, a slurry inlet means (12) near the top of the tank for introducing fresh slurry into the tank, the slurry inlet means having a slurry opening through which fresh slurry joins the body of slurry in the tank, and a stirrer (20) having a generally vertical axis (30) around which the stirrer rotates or reciprocates. The slurry opening (12C) is displaced laterally relative to the generally vertical axis (30) of the stirrer (20) and the slurry inlet means is configured to allow the fresh slurry to enter the slurry body without accumulating solids from the fresh slurry at the slurry opening.
La présente invention concerne une cuve de décantation utilisée pour décanter des boues minérales et un procédé correspondant. La cuve (10) de décantation comprend une cuve (11) prévue pour contenir et décanter une masse de boue (15 et 16) afin de former une boue épaissie au niveau d'une couche inférieure (15) et un liquide décanté au niveau d'une couche supérieure (16), la cuve comportant une paroi latérale (34), un fond (36) et un dessus (14), une sortie (18) étant prévue, au fond de la cuve, pour évacuer la boue épaissie, une sortie (19) étant prévue pour le liquide décanté, à proximité du dessus (14) de la cuve, un moyen (12) d'introduction des boues étant prévu à proximité du dessus de la cuve pour introduire les boues fraîches dans la cuve, le moyen d'entrée des boues comportant une ouverture par laquelle les boues fraîches rejoignent la masse des boues se trouvant dans la cuve, et un agitateur (20) ayant un axe (30) globalement vertical autour duquel l'agitateur tourne ou effectue un mouvement de va et vient. L'ouverture (12c) pour les boues est déplacée latéralement par rapport à l'axe (30) globalement vertical de l'agitateur (20) et le moyen d'introduction des boues est configuré pour permettre aux boues fraîches d'entrer dans la masse de boue sans que s'accumulent, au niveau de l'ouverture pour les boues, des matières solides provenant des boues fraîches.
