An ODS-CDMA communications system is disclosed with at least one hub station and a plurality of user terminals. Each user is assigned a code which is orthogonal to all of the other user codes. The orthogonal code period is chosen such that the code repeats an integer number of times in a data symbol time and the code is synchronized with the symbol transitions so that no data transitions occur within the code. Thus, the selection of an orthogonal code book which enables a high rate data to be spread using shorter code words, and conversely, low data rate to be spread using longer code words, all or which remain mutually orthogonal.
L'invention concerne un système de communications ODS-CDMA comprenant au moins une station centrale et une pluralité de terminaux utilisateur. Un code est affecté à chaque utilisateur, ce code étant orthogonal à tous les autres codes utilisateur. La période d'un code orthogonal est choisie de sorte que ce code se répète un nombre entier de fois, sur la durée de symbole de données et est synchronisé avec les transitions de symbole de sorte qu'aucune transition de données n'apparaît dans le code. En outre, la sélection d'un registre de codes orthogonaux permet d'étaler des données à débit élevé à l'aide de mots de code plus courts, et inversement d'étaler des données à faible débit à l'aide de mots de code plus longs, tous les codes restant mutuellement orthogonaux.
