The outer circumference of the end of a concrete pipe is machined by a milling tool. The milling tool travels on a circular path about the pipe end. The milling tool is moveable in two directions, under CNC control. A measuring device, which is inserted into the interior of the concrete pipe before machining, measures using ultrasound the internal dimensions and thereby the position of the pipe central axis.
