A granulator and delivery system for sublimable CO2 granules (16) has working edges (38) rotatably supported for defining a cutting surface (40); a driver (48) for powering the working edges; a feeder (56) for advancing solid CO2 into contact with the working edges, the working edges removing the granules from the solid CO2; a duct (30) having an outlet (31), the granules being directed from the block to flow from the outlet; an eductor (20) having a material inlet (32), a gas inlet (26) and an eductor outlet (24), the material inlet being connected to the outlet; a delivery control valve (28) fluid connected between the gas inlet and a source of high pressure gas; a controller (54) responsive to an external signal (82) for: activating the driver, the feeder and the delivery control valve for delivery of granules from the duct in response to activation of the demand signal; deactivating at least one of the driver and the feeder in response to either deactivation of the demand signal for halting production of the granules or for preventing consumption of all but a predetermined portion of the solid CO2; and reversing the feeder for permitting loading of a fresh quantity of solid CO2 into the granulator in response to a predetermined advance of the feeder, and resuming operation of the granulator once the fresh quantity is loaded. Also disclosed is a method of producing and blasting sublimable dry ice granules.
Un système de granulation et de distribution de granulés de CO¿2? sublimables (16) comporte des bords fonctionnels (38) montés rotatifs afin de former une surface coupante (40); un dispositif d'entraînement (48) destiné à actionner les bords fonctionnels; un dispositif d'alimentation (56) destiné à faire avancer le CO¿2? solide pour le mettre en contact avec les bords fonctionnels, ceux-ci extrayant les granulés du CO¿2? solide; un conduit (30) présentant un orifice de sortie (31), les granulés provenant du bloc de CO¿2 ?étant dirigés pour être évacués à travers l'orifice de sortie; un dispositif d'évacuation (20) présentant un orifice d'admission de matériau (32), un orifice d'admission de gaz (26) et un orifice d'évacuation (24), l'orifice d'admission de matériau étant raccordé à l'orifice d'évacuation; un clapet de commande de distribution (28) en communication fluidique entre l'orifice d'admission de gaz et une source de gaz haute pression; un organe de commande (54) réagissant à un signal externe (82). Cet organe de commande actionne le dispositif d'entraînement, le dispositif d'alimentation et le clapet de commande de distribution des granulés à partir du conduit, en réaction à l'activation du signal de demande. Il désactive au moins l'un des dispositifs d'entraînement et d'alimentation en réaction à la désactivation du signal de demande pour stopper la production des granulés ou pour empêcher la consommation de pratiquement toute une portion déterminée du CO¿2? solide. Il inverse le dispositif d'alimentation pour permettre le chargement d'une nouvelle quantité de CO¿2? dans le granulateur en réaction à une avance prédéterminée du dispositif d'alimentation, et remet le granulateur en marche une fois la nouvelle quantité chargée. L'invention concerne également un procédé de production et de projection de granulés de neige carbonique sublimable.
