Abstract of the Disclosure Apparatus for producing spherical particles which includes a vertical draft tube having an infeed opening adjacent its lower end, a burner within the draft tube inter- mediate its ends, an expansion chamber communicating with and extending above the draft tube, and an enclosure disposed about the expansion chamber in spaced relationship therewith and having at least one infeed opening. Air or other combus- tion supporting gas is introduced through the infeed opening into the space between the enclosure and the expansion chamber to raise the gas to an elevated temperature by the heat from the burner. The thus preheated combustion supporting gas is withdrawn from the space between the enclosure and the expansion chamber and is fed to the infeed opening of the draft tube. Particles of sphere forming material are introduced into the draft tube above the burner and are carried upwardly into the expansion chamber by the heat from the burner and are shaped by surface tension into spherical form.
