ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus for providing a food product e.g. piece of meat, with a thread-like suspension means comprises a needle for passing the thread loop-like through the food product. Two gripper means, are provided, one to hold the thread as a loop is pushed through the piece of meat and the other to hold the loop for cutting, after it protrudes out from the piece of meat, the cut loop end and the held gripper end are presented to a connection device for the thread. Preferably the connecting device comprises an ultrasonic welding head for welding together the ends of the threads. The apparatus further comprises discs with accurate peripheries for driving by means of followers least some of the operational means in a coordinated manner.
