ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus for the purging of pressure vessels containing gaseous products, and having a support for a pressure vessel, opening formers to form at least two openings in the pressure vessel at points spaced from one another, a purge gas injector for injecting an environmentally neutral purge gas into the pressure vessel, and a discharge vent for discharging gaseous material from the pressure vessel in response to injection of the purge gas. The invention further provides a crusher for crushing the pressure vessel after purging, and a convertor for converting hazardous gaseous materials into environmentally neutral material. The invention further comprises a method of processing pressure vessels containing hazardous gaseous material utilizing such apparatus.
