A casing of the working member is made split with an open bottom. Disposed inside the working member casing is a shell destroyed when acted upon by an initiating device at the moment the work- ing member gets in contact with the bottom of a water basin, and a device for catching and holding a sample. The initiating device is installed in the upper part of the working member and provided with a release mechanism operatively associated with a device for dropping ballast weights. The upper part of the working member casing is provided with a thrower. The lower part of the working member casing is provided with a packing ring.
