ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Apparatus for the planetary feeding of welding electrode wire capable of electromagnetically adjusting the pushing force exerted on the electrode wire, the apparatus having a first and a second housing part. Opposed canted rolls are mounted for rotation about their axes upon the first housing part which is rotatable about the axis of an elongated electrode wire passing between and being fed by the canted rolls. The second housing part, which is disposed coaxially of the first housing part, has a cam or a cone which interacts with a roll adjuster provided on the first housing part so as to adjust the force with which the canted rolls engage the electrode wire in accordance with relative motion between the two housing parts. The second housing part is rotatable and the degree of motion of the two housing parts relative to each other, which motion is responsible for varying the force with which the canted rolls engage the electrode wire, is determined by an externally con- trolled electromagnet which can be adjusted while the welding apparatus is in continuous operation.
