The invention relates to a portable and autonomous appliance for the measurement and remote transmission of electromyographic (EMG) signals, said appliance comprising at least one electrical stimulator (1), a pair of electrodes for acquiring the EMG signal (21, 31), an acquisition chain (2) which is piloted by a microcontroller (3, 39) and linked, via a standardised interface (5), to a computer (4) comprising means for storing (9) and displaying acquired EMG signals, and an executable programme for carrying out the interface with the user (6) and using the stored data. The invention is characterised in that the acquisition chain (2) also comprises means for eliminating or attenuating a stimulation artefact in the EMG signal, co-operating with means for automatically adjusting the amplification gain of the EMG signal (23, 24, 311, 38), via the microcontroller, in such a way that the EMG signal covers the largest possible part of the input voltage range of the CAN (26, 310), thus maintaining the resolution when the amplitude of the EMG signal decreases.
