An aqueous coating agent, containing: one or more film-forming water-dilutable or water-soluble epoxy resins with an epoxide equivalent weight of 100 to 10000; one or more water-dilutable or water-soluble polyamines with at least two primary and/or secondary amino groups in the molecule and an equivalent weight of 50 to 500; and optional pigments, fillers and/or other conventional lacquer adjuvants; the ratio of reactive H atoms in the polyamines to the epoxy groups in the epoxy resins being 0.7 : 1 to 1.5 : 1; and additionally 5 to 80 wt.% of one or more water-dilutable or water-soluble polyurethane resins with a number average molecular weight (Mn) of 500 to 500000 relative to the sum of the weights of the solids in the epoxy resin and polyamine.
