The invention relates to an articular finger prosthesis - especially metacarpophalangeal or proximal interphalangeal - comprising a proximal implant (5a, 5b) associated with a proximal bone element (1) or (2) and forming a convex articulation surface (7a, 7b) and a distal implant (6a, 6b) associated with a distal bone element (2) or (3) forming a concave articulation surface (8a, 8b) which slides in contact with the convex articulation surface (7a, 7b), wherein each implant comprises a shield (9a, 9b, 11a, 11b), the shape and dimensions of which correspond at least substantially to those of the original cartilage which replaces it, while covering the end (17, 18, 19, 20) of the bone element (1, 2, 3) on or in which it is combined by fitting while retaining the end portions of the bone element (1, 2, 3) for anchoring the ligaments (13a, 13b) and/or the tendons (14a, 14b).
