Automated means for hydrating contact lenses. A first robotic assembly transports a first hydration carrier to a first rotary transfer device. The first rotary transfer device transfers the carrier to a second robotic assembly that immerses the carrier in a hydration bath. Each lens is transferred from a respective lens mold to a lens transfer means during the bath. The second robotic assembly transfers the carrier to a second rotary transfer device that rotates and transfers the carrier to a third robotic assembly. The third robotic assembly removes the lens molds and lens mold carrier from the lens transfer means. The lenses are transported with the lens transfer means and assembled with a hydration base member to form a second hydration carrier. After subjecting the lenses to extraction processing, the lens transfer means is dis-assembled from the hydration base member to provide hydrated lenses in a concave lens holding means.
