ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An axial hinge lock fits in a hinge structure for windows, doors and the like and transfers the weight of the door or window when the hinge is vertical without having to provide hinge end stops. The hinge lock is fitted in a hinge structure which has an axis of rotation which moves eccentrically as the hinge opens. The hinge structure has two hinge members, each member having an inter-locking portion, and a retainer member which holds the two hinge members in hinged engagement. The hinge lock comprises at least one aperture extending through both interlocking hinge portions at the hinged engagement, a ball close fitting in the aperture, and a spring in the aperture pushing against the ball to retain the ball at approximately the axis of rotation when the hinge members open or close.
