It has now been found that the incorporation of nanosized metal particles into cyclodextrin-containing material leads to a "reactive" barrier material having excellent barrier properties. More specifically, it has been found that the presence of nanosized metal or metal alloy particles in a barrier material, preferably a thermoplastic material, wherein said material comprises cyclodextrin derivatives, is advantageous in achieving excellent barrier properties. The barrier material of the present invention provides improved barrier resistance to a variety of permeants and/or impurities. The diffusion of volatile substances through the barrier material is prevented by adding compatible derivatized cyclodextrin and nanosized metal particles to the material used. Accordingly, the inventive material also is suitable for many applications including food-contact packaging, flexible packaging to dispose of adult and baby diapers, incontinent products, hospital and household waste and also for packaging pharmaceutical products, medical devices and dental materials.

On a découvert que l'incorporation de particules métalliques nanodimensionnées dans un matériau contenant de la cyclodextrine permet d'obtenir un matériau barrière <= réactif >= possédant d'excellentes propriétés de barrière. On a observé, plus particulièrement, que la présence de particules nanodimensionnées de métal ou d'alliage de métaux dans un matériau barrière, de préférence, un matériau thermoplastique contenant des dérivés de cyclodextrine, confère à ce matériau des propriétés de barrière excellentes et avantageuses. Ce matériau barrière améliore la résistance à la pénétration par perméation d'une variété de contaminants et/ou impuretés. L'apport de particules métalliques nanodimensionnées et de cyclodextrine dérivée compatible dans ce matériau barrière empêche la diffusion de substances volatiles à travers ce dernier. Ce matériau est, de ce fait, utilisable dans un grand nombre de domaines d'application, tels que l'emballage en contact alimentaire, l'emballage souple servant à jeter les garnitures d'incontinence, les couches et les déchets ménagers ou hospitaliers, et peut également servir à conditionner des produits pharmaceutiques ou des dispositifs médicaux et dentaires.
